Town of South Bethany – Canal Algae Harvesting, May 1-5, 2023
Date Posted: Monday, April 24th, 2023The Town of South Bethany, in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) and Solitude Lake Management, will be algae harvesting the canals the week of May 1 through May 5, 2023, approximately between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. For the past year, the Town Council, Canal Water Quality Committee and Town staff, worked together with DNREC and Solitude to find a solution for removal of the algae from the canals. This year, instead of fully relying on DNREC to clean the canals, the Town contracted with Solitude Lake Management for harvesting operations, while DNREC has agreed to provide a driver and truck to haul and dispose of the algae at one of their off-site locations. Town of South Bethany Council Seat Vacancy
Date Posted: Friday, April 14th, 2023This year, only two (2) candidates filed prior to the March 23, 2023, deadline for the three (3) currently open seats on the South Bethany Town Council. As a result, there will be no election in May, but there will be one (1) vacant seat. According to the Town Charter, this vacancy will be filled by appointment of the newly constituted Town Council. Election 2023 – CANCELLED
Date Posted: Friday, March 31st, 2023NOTICE TOWN OF SOUTH BETHANY 2023 ELECTION CANCELLED The Town of South Bethany Election, which would have been scheduled for May 13, 2023, has been cancelled. There are three seats open for Council Members for two-year terms. Only two of the three seats for Council were filled by two unopposed candidates. Both were qualified by the Board of Elections. The following are declared elected by the South Bethany Board of Elections: Council Members-elect – Edie Dondero and William “Tim” Shaw The Town of South Bethany will swear in the two candidates at the Town Council Organizational Meeting to be held at a later date, which will be posted.
