DNREC Swim Advisory Lifted

he recreational water advisory for South Bethany beaches expired at 12 p.m. today (Monday, Sept. 23, 2024), by order of DNREC. Out of an abundance of caution, visitors to the beach are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes. DNREC asks that if you observe any medical waste to please report it to their hotline at 800-662-8802.

South Bethany Announces Closure of Beach

The Town of South Bethany, along with other Delaware and Maryland coastal towns, is temporarily closing the beach for swimming due to recent reports of medical waste washing ashore. We continue to inspect the beach, and access will be restricted to ensure the safety of the public.  Report the presence of medical waste to the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) hotline at 800-662-8802.

DNREC Community Meeting: Economic Analysis for Shoreline Management

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control (DNREC) will be hosting a virtual community meeting on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 6 p.m., regarding the economic study for cost sharing beach replenishment. See the flyer below for registration information. A very simple registration is required to attend, which can be found on the event webpage here: https://dnrec.delaware.gov/events/community-meeting-economic-analysis-for-shoreline-management/ Day-of registration is fine, and all interested parties should register via the above process if you plan to attend.

Town of South Bethany Board of Adjustment (BOA) Vacancies

There are three vacancies on the Board of Adjustment due to term expiration. Each 3 year term is set to expire in August 2027. If you are interested and meet the requirement below, please submit a brief resume to the Town by 3 p.m. on July 31, 2024.  Requirements: The Board consists of five members who are full-time residents or own property and reside in Town at least 30 days, consecutively or non-consecutively, each year. Board members should be knowledgeable of the problems of urban and rural development and become familiarized with Town Code, specifically Chapter 145, Zoning.
