Phase 2 Reopening Town Hall – Monday, June 15, 2020

We’ve always been opened!  We just need to make it official!  Throughout the State of Emergency, Town Hall staff has been available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, but Town Hall itself has been closed to the public.  Over the past month, we provided an easy walk-up window, which has been a great success. The window offers current Town information as well as lollipops and stickers for the kids and dog treats for our fur-visitors.  Once we open on June 15, the main door will still be locked and we will still encourage use of the walk-up window. BICYCLE ENFORCEMENT MEASURES Beginning June 20, 2020 Despite the changes that the Town made with the addition and various placement locations of 36 bicycle racks, the increase of bicycles encroaching private and Town property has grown exponentially. Property owners and visitors have contacted the Town to express their concerns regarding safety hazards with bicycles parked on beach walkways and left laying alongside streets, as well as the total disregard of bicycles locked to, or abandoned on, private and Town property. Beginning June 20, 2020, the following will be enforced: 1. Bicycles not placed in racks will be moved and relocated to the closest available rack. 2. Bicycles chained to Town property such as signposts, streetlights, beach walkways, sand fence, etc., will be removed and taken to the closest available rack. PARK BICYCLES IN RACKS ONLY – Pick up a Bicycle Guidelines & Rack Locations card from Town Hall or visit a bulletin board for location information! Bicycles found outside of racks will be relocated and placed in the nearest rack. It’s a safety hazard to leave your bicycle parked on a beach access walk! Bicycles found parked/abandoned on beach access walks will be relocated and placed in the nearest rack. A “No Cart Parking” sign means No Carts! Bikes with carts can park on: Ocean Drive (south end), N. 6th St (vacant lot), Anchorage Drive Forebay. DO NOT lock bicycles to fences, Town signs or private property; DO NOT discard or park bicycles on vacant lots or private property! The bulk trash pick-up has been rescheduled to Saturday, Sept. 12. Remove freon from appliances Remove freezer & refrigerator doors Remove gas & oil from lawnmowers. Tape a sign/label on item indicating it has been done SOLIDIFY latex paint with kitty litter, sand, or sawdust (can also be disposed in regular trash) Place items at the curbside the previous night (no longer) to ensure collection DO NOT PLACE construction debris, automobile batteries, flammable/hazardous materials, oil/petroleum products, oil based paint, rocks, bricks, concrete blocks, concrete, dirt, stumps, tires, yard waste, and appliances containing CFC Freon Gas: a/c units, freezers, refrigerators Inadvertent collection of material in/on/or adjacent to bulk items to be collected WILL NOT be the responsibility of Republic Services   Questions?  Call Republic Services (800)762-8888 or Town Hall (302) 539-3653

2020 Residential Parking Permits Are Available

Four convenient ways to purchase permits:  1) Town Hall front deck walk up window during regular business hours (closed weekends and holidays), 2) Town website by clicking or tapping “Online Payments”, 3) Mail (provide check, mailing address, and quantity), and 4) Call Town Hall during regular business hours.  Application for Rental License or Non-Rental Declaration must be completed prior to purchasing parking permits. TOWN OF SOUTH BETHANY 2020 ELECTION CANCELLED The Town of South Bethany Election, which would have been scheduled for May 23, 2020, has been cancelled. There were three seats open for Council Members for two-year terms and one seat for Mayor for a two-year term. All were filled by unopposed candidates, qualified by the Board of Elections. The following were declared elected by the South Bethany Board of Elections: Mayor – Timothy Saxton Council Members – Sue Callaway, Derek Abbott, and Randall Bartholomew The Town of South Bethany will swear in the four candidates at the Organizational Meeting to be held at a later date which will be posted.
