Town Hall Walk-Up Window is Open for Business

Town Hall is open for business.  We have provided an easy walk-up window, which has been a great success. The window offers current Town information.  The main door is still locked. If you’d like to meet with a staff member, please advise staff at the window who you would like to see or call 302-539-3653.  You must wear your mask at all times. Town Council will continue to meet via electronic methods as per the guidance provided by Governor Carney in the Proclamation released Friday, March 13, 2020. All Agenda postings will contain the method to listen to the meeting. We encourage everyone to practice social distancing throughout Town and follow the CDC guidelines. Our decision to implement these necessary steps is in response to the Coronavirus crisis and in the interest of proper health and safety practices. Comcast coming to South Bethany and Bethany Beach

The Town Councils of South Bethany and Bethany Beach are pleased to announce that Comcast will be offering Internet and cable TV services in their communities in the near future. Comcast will begin rolling out services to residents within 12 to 18 months, subject to the receipt of all necessary permits and approvals. In addition to Gigabit internet service, Comcast features Xfinity xFi, a digital dashboard enabling customers to control their connected devices. Residents will also have access to all Xfinity services, including Xfinity X1 video platform, Xfinity Home, Xfinity Voice and Xfinity Mobile. Businesses will be able to select from the full suite of Comcast Business products and services, including Ethernet network speeds up to 100 Gigabits-per-second. DNREC Press Release – Oil Spill Cleanup of Delaware Bay Coastline

The following Press Release from the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) provides information on the recent oil spill in the Delaware Bay. South Bethany’s public works department has been surveilling South Bethany’s coast and, to date, no oil has been discovered. Oil Spill Cleanup of Delaware Bay Coastline Intensifies Today With Additional Resources Deployed The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and U.S. Coast Guard continued Thursday and Friday to spearhead a cleanup operation for the oil spill that has deposited blobs of oil called tar balls and oiled debris this week over a stretch of Delaware coastline extending from the upper Delaware Bay to the tip of the Atlantic Ocean. Beach Nourishment Contract Awarded

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Awards Contract for Periodic Beach Nourishment The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) notified us that construction on the beach nourishment project for South Bethany and Bethany, could begin as early as mid-October. The contract was awarded just over a week ago to Weeks Marine, Inc., in the amount of $11.1 million. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Weeks are finalizing documents that will allow them to start the project as quickly as possible. There is no official schedule at this time, but some oceanfront property owners may start receiving letters about the project as well as one regarding seismic monitoring to ensure houses are not damaged by equipment vibrations. Beach nourishment is designed to reduce the risk of storm damages to property and infrastructure. The last nourishment project was conducted in 2018.
