Update on the Sussex County Property Reassessments for South Bethany

Here is the latest update on the Sussex County countywide reassessment!

Over 90,000 parcels have been visited by assessment data collectors. This represents 47 percent of the overall parcel count. Due to Tyler Technologies staffing issues, the data collection is not currently on track to meet the projected deadline for data collection completion by July 1, 2023. The County is looking into extending the entire project timeline a year, which would change the first billing to be impacted by the new assessments to the fall of 2025.

Data mailers of properties that have been visited will start being mailed by late Spring of 2023. Data collectors are focusing on completing property visits in the Bethany area through April while also beginning to collect data in Seaford and the surrounding areas of the western side of Sussex County within the upcoming week.

For additional information, and a current map of Tyler Technologies’ data collection areas, please visit the reassessment project website: https://empower.tylertech.com/Sussex-County-Delaware.html

If you have any questions, please feel free to call Tyler Technologies’ project office at 302-854-5274.

Election 2022 – CANCELLED

NOTICE

TOWN OF SOUTH BETHANY

2022 ELECTION

CANCELLED

The Town of South Bethany Election, which would have been scheduled for May 14, 2022, has been cancelled.  There were three (3) seats open for Council Members for two (2)-year terms and one (1) seat for Mayor for a two (2)-year term.  The seat for Mayor and three (3) seats for Council members were filled by unopposed candidates. All were qualified by the Board of Elections. Due to there being no additional candidates running other than the four listed below to fill the four open seats, there will be no election. The following are declared elected by the South Bethany Board of Elections:

Mayor – Timothy Saxton

Council Members – Derek Abbott, Randall Bartholomew, and Robert Biciocchi

The Town of South Bethany will swear in the four candidates at the Town Council Organizational Meeting to be held at a later date, which will be posted.

Foxes

South Bethany is located near wooded areas and the Assawoman Wildlife Refuge , therefore, various wildlife are in the area. The Town of South Bethany does not handle complaints of wildlife and animal control.

To deter such animals, please consider:

Fox Facts:

  • Foxes have a natural fear of people and will normally flee, but have learned to associate people with food and may approach you.
  • Foxes are not dangerous to humans, except when they are rabid, which is very rare.
  • A fox’s natural tendency is to flee rather than fight.
  • Foxes may prey on small pets or livestock (such as rabbits, guinea pigs or chickens) which generally cannot defend itself, so those pets should be kept indoors or housed in sturdy structures.
  • Foxes will also eat various fruits, but not garden vegetables.
  • A fox cutting through your yard is moving on and no action is necessary on your part.
  • Both red and gray foxes dig dens mostly for raising kits, but also to use as shelter from severe winter weather.
  • Fox dens under porches, decks or sheds are not uncommon in urban areas. If you find a fox family in an inconvenient spot, consider allowing them to stay until the young are old enough to begin accompanying their parents on foraging outings, they will then move on.
  • Fox kits are born in the spring, usually in March or April, and you’ll see them emerge from the den four or five weeks after birth. At nine weeks, they will begin to hunt with their parents, and will be shortly leaving the den site.
