York Road Flood Mitigation Project Update

Construction for the flood mitigation project on York Road is planned for the week of April 13, 2026, to April 17, 2026, weather permitting. The road raising/resurfacing project is expected to last less than one week. York Road will remain open for the duration of the project, though traffic flow will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic.

South Bethany Waste Service Transition to Casella (Effective May 1, 2026)

The Town will transition from Republic Services to Casella as its waste services provider effective May 1, 2026. Please review the important dates and service updates below. Transition Timeline Friday, April 24 – Last recycling pickup by Republic Services. Recycling containers will be removed this day. Please place containers curbside and leave them there until picked up by Republic. Monday, April 27 – Last trash pickup by Republic Services. Removal of containers from the town-owned trash bins on Ocean Drive and Sandpiper Village. Weeks of April 20 and April 27 – Casella will deliver new recycling containers. Do not use these containers for Republic’s April 24 pickup. Casella will deliver new containers for town-owned trash bins on Ocean Drive and Sandpiper Village. Planning Commission Members Needed

The Town is in need of volunteers to serve on the Planning Commission for either a two-year or three-year term. The Planning Commission is tasked with working with the Town’s planning consultant on the development of a new 10-year Comprehensive Plan. Work on the plan will begin in May 2026 and will wrap-up in the fall of 2027. During this time, the Commission will hold several meetings. Additionally, the Planning Commission is charged with approving subdivisions, lot consolidations, and other land use matters. These occur infrequently and hearings are scheduled when needed. For more information on the Planning Commission, please click here. Interested candidates should submit a Committee Participation Form to the Town by no later than 4 p.m. on April 15, 2026, so Council may appoint new Commission members at the May 18th reorganizational meeting.
