NOTICE OF ELECTION

TOWN OF SOUTH BETHANY

Town Hall, 402 Evergreen Road, South Bethany, Delaware

Saturday, May 11, 2024,       9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

There are three (3) seats open for Council members for a two (2) year term, and one (1) seat open for Mayor for a two (2) year term.

Resident/Non-resident Council Members

The Town Charter provides that at least four of the seven members of the Town Council (which includes the Mayor) must be residents of the town, but all may be residents of the Town.

MAYOR: Candidates for Mayor must qualify as a “Resident” of the Town.  The candidates for Mayor, who are both Residents, are:

Edith Dondero

William “Tim” Shaw

 

COUNCIL MEMBERS:  Based upon the current composition of Town Council, and the Mayor’s residency requirement, one (1) of the three (3) Council seats up for election this year must be filled by a Resident of the Town, and two (2) of the three (3) Council seats up for election this year may be filled by either a Resident or a Nonresident property owner.

The Town Council candidates are:

Randall Bartholomew (Resident)

Robert Biciocchi (Resident)

Steven Gallagher (Non-Resident)

Robert Shields (Non-Resident)

Robert Taishoff (Non-Resident)

 

VOTER ELIGIBILITY

Voter Eligibility can be found on the Town website at http://ecode360.com/37590992

You may vote in person on Election Day or Absentee Voting, for a qualified reason.

ABSENTEE BALLOT VOTING

You must complete an Affidavit, stating a qualified reason, to receive an Absentee Voting Ballot. Three ways to receive an Affidavit:

1) Stop in Town Hall, 402 Evergreen Rd, South Bethany, DE.

2) Call (302) 539-3653 or email (townclerk@southbethany.org) to request an Affidavit be mailed or emailed to you (see below for deadline).

3) Download an Affidavit from our website (see above).

After submitting a completed and qualifying Affidavit to Town Hall, you will receive an Absentee Ballot.

A completed, signed Affidavit may be mailed, emailed from the voter’s email, or delivered in person to Town Hall.

  • Any Affidavit which requests that an Absentee Ballot be MAILED to the elector must be received at Town Hall no later than four days prior (May 7, 2024) to the day of the election, to ensure adequate time for mailing. Affidavits and absentee ballots requested via mail will only be sent via regular USPS mail (no Fed Ex, no UPS, no overnight, no certified).
  • All other Affidavits MUST BE RECEIVED at Town Hall no later than 12:00 p.m. noon, the day before (May 10, 2024) the day of the election.
  • PLEASE CALL TOWN HALL IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON DEADLINES.

RETURN OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS

All Absentee Ballots must be completed and returned to Town Hall by the closing of the polls at 3:00 p.m. on Election Day. It is the responsibility of the elector to ensure that the completed ballot is received at Town Hall (by mail or hand-delivery) NO LATER THAN the closing of the polls at 3:00 p.m. on Election Day.  Ballots received after this deadline will not be counted.
