Coffee with Councilman Bartholomew & CERT instructor Ed Donnally, Friday, Sept. 15, 2023

Date Posted: Tuesday, August 29th, 2023

Join Councilman Randy Bartholomew at the Coffee with Council event at South Bethany Town Hall on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 10 a.m., for a presentation on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and learn how you can participate in this valuable overview. The presenter will be Ed Donnally, a CERT-instructor and the coordinator of the Ocean View CERT program.

CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens may initially be on their own and their actions can make a difference. This valuable program is designed to help you protect yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your neighborhood in emergency situations. While people will respond to others in need without the training, one goal of the CERT program is to help them do so effectively and efficiently without placing themselves in unnecessary danger.

In the CERT training, citizens learn to:

  • manage utilities and put out small fires;
  • provide basic medical aid;
  • search for and rescue victims safely;
  • organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective; and
  • collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts.
